Coral Moon is a 100% black owned Level 3 BBBEE rated Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Company (est. March 2011) is headed by Derrick Huang and Elias Masombuka. It comprises of a consortium of companies partnered with high-level expertise and capital, and pro-actively addresing and advocating the need for localization in the industry.

Due to their extensive knowledge of and business networks in the ICT sector globally, as well as their active participation in the bi-lateral trade negotiations and agreements between South Africa and China, they elected to partner with the world’s third largest communications technology manufacturer – Hisense – to empower South Africa in developing a similar capability in this field.

They knew that not only will it address the immediate and urgent need of the Department of Communications in terms of a fast and effective roll-out of the Set-Top boxes (at internationally accredited ISO9000 standards) but also the creation of decent employment opportunities for the unemployed in South Africa.

The ultimate responsibility of Coral Moon in terms of the consortium for the Set-Top Box project will be to take the lead in project management, delivery, management and control as well as the back-office administration of the project. Coral Moon will also see to it that the objective of decent work is attained along with all other vitally important aspects around empowerment (eg. skills development, preferential procurement, enterprise development and socio-economic development). Coral Moon ensures the localization of the consortiums core business objectives.

Coral Moon also addresses other areas such as, technology transfer, corporate governance, adherence to South African Labour practices, safety, health, environment and quality standards.
